A whole lot of bad news today

It's been a rough Monday!
The US will advance controversial deep sea mining (and deploy the US military domestically, for goodness sake). Trump dismissed all 400 of the scientists contributing to the National Climate Assessment. In Europe, a new dashboard finds that EU banks have far greater incentive to contest regulation than they do mitigate physical climate change (and only 6% of their current assets are helping more than hurting).
And AI? The opening keynote of a great Singapore conference on Machine Learning for Climate (the source of the image above) painted a picture of AI as the best solution for catching a falling knife: biodiversity collapsing in close correlation with climate change, radical uncertainty, antagonists as primary ecosystem actors, sparse resources for AI in conservation, and a requirement that any solution also maintain peoples' jobs.
Whoa; that's a lot of bad news for one day.
Below we'll dig into more broad updates, many of which will offer some hopeful places to invest energy and build leverage. See, for example, Nature Tech Collective's first report mapping 400 nature fintech solutions on the rise.
And now, our daily summaries of nearly 200 selected updates from around the world of green tech and sustainability.
