Coca-Cola announced this week that it is investing in Avalo, an AI-powered "plant evolution startup," to reduce the water and fertilizer needs of crops like sugar cane and cotton, hopefully cutting Scope 3 emissions.

It's an example of Carbon Insetting, where companies invest in their own supply chains to lower emissions instead of paying third parties for Offsetting. Avalo uses AI to analyze complex genetic traits. Corporate VC investments like this can accelerate B2B adoption and market validation. I wrote about it in more detail here on LinkedIn; feel free to share your thoughts there in order to stir up more conversation.
It's refreshing to see investments like this at a time when the biggest emitters, oil companies, are rolling back their renewable energy commitments and more importantly, argues Rich Collett-White, at Carbon Tracker, increasing their investments in fossil fuel extraction.
And now, our daily summaries of 197 selected updates from around the world of green tech and sustainability.
