"There’s always going to be opportunities to improve things. You have to look where the opportunities are and pursue them, and don’t spend too much time hitting your head against the brick wall." -Steven Nadel, American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy.
Hugely influential energy efficiency leader Steven Nadel has announced he's departing from his current position and offered some really good strategic wisdom in an interview RMI shared this morning that I want to share with you.
"We’re pivoting more to state and local programs, working with businesses, people who do care about this. Yes, we will work to defend key policies at the federal level, but making forward progress on efficiency at the federal level will be hard for the next few years.
"So, look for those opportunities. Look for opportunities to build some consensus and move forward.
"It’s kind of like a military campaign. If the enemy’s dug in one place, you do an end run, you go somewhere else where you feel you can make progress."
Speaking of making progress, you're invited to join us tomorrow for the 2nd Earth Catalyst Green Tech Startup Session. We'll run through a process where we:

Oil's Hidden Growth Engine
Inside Climate News illustrates how petrochemical production – not transportation – will be the biggest driver of new oil demand by 2030, according to International Energy Agency projections. The data shows petrochemicals (used primarily for plastics and chemicals) will account for over 9 million barrels per day of demand growth through 2030, far outpacing increases from shipping, passenger vehicles, aviation and road freight.
