"History shows that those who are strategic in their investments in innovation during challenging times often emerge as leaders," writes innovation specialist Daniel Hill at Environmental Defense Fund in an excellent blog post yesterday about the strategic advantage that can be built by using foresight at times of seemingly waning economic or political opportunity. "When Others Retreat, Innovate: Climate Action in Times of Uncertainty" As an analogy for investing in climate innovation, Hill tells the story of how in 2008's global recession, while others laid people off and cut spending, Netflix, Mailchimp, and Dominos invested in innovation that make them global leaders once the downturn had passed. I shared this post with further discussion here on LinkedIn; I'd love it if you joined me there to help stir up conversation.
