How do you advance your sustainability work despite hostility or indifference from the federal government? One powerful strategy is leveraging partner networks.
EV charging partnership network Ionna announced it is going ahead with its ambitious expansion plans for 30,000 electric vehicle charging bays around the U.S. by 2030. This despite federal action last week suspending billions of dollars in funding to support EV network expansion. 1,000 Ionna facilities, some with a retro service-station style aesthetic they'll call Rechargeries, are planned for this year.
The network is a partnership of BMW, General Motors, Honda, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, and Toyota. It's making use of Amazon for AI "just walk out" retail tech and a network of highway locations from a company called Sheetz.
I think this approach aligns with the Permaculture concept of 'Function Stacking,' which includes asking, "How can this work support multiple goals? And how can it become more valuable by connecting to other initiatives?" Partnership-centric strategies like Ionna’s exemplify that to me.
Perhaps such thinking can open up new opportunities in your work.
