Well, people were asking for a climate related emergency declaration by the US federal government! The new administration's energy emergency declaration is being covered by press outlets around the world today, and as usual one of the best pieces on it comes from The Guardian. Overturning auto emissions standards, opening up natural gas exports, suspending wind power leases - it's an unsurprising list, yet still shocking.
As Galina Angarova, Executive Director of the SIRGE Coalition (Securing Indigenous Rights in the Green Economy) said this morning in a webinar on the Indigenous Peoples Principles and Protocols for Just Transition:
"Make sure to take care of yourself of these difficult times and those to come. One thing that is true throughout civilization is that empires come and go, politicians come and go, but peoples and communities stay. That is why it's so important we continue our resistance."
