Which will win? Trump chaos or AI demand for renewable energy?

What if AI ended up being what drives the transition to renewable energy?
The fastest, cheapest way to meet the insatiable demand for more energy to train ever-more-powerful models looks like solar, wind, and batteries. It's not hard at all to imagine the renewables industry reframing itself in national security and economic leadership terms. And the ecological dividend of that being the accelerated replacement of fossil fuels for energy.
The energy storage industry pledged to invest $100B in battery manufacture in the US last month and Jeff St. John has a great long article putting that in context on Canary Media this morning. The Solar Energy Industries Association reshared the graphic above this morning, pointing to an article about how the rapid deployment of solar and batteries is key to the US keeping up in energy and thus AI.
St. John focuses on the uncertainty of Trump chaos as a limiting factor for the growth of renewables. But the aggregate growth of demand may be even more powerful, and the speed of deployment sure does seem clear. Deployment and reliability considerations may make the transition slower than some of us would like, but the economics seem clear in the long run.
Everyone says investors need predictability to invest. But this combination of geopolitical and technological factors feels like it could be more compelling than Trump unpredictability.
